How to request account deletion

Requesting it in the app you are signed in to is the quickest way. An account signed in with a social account is deleted after a 30-day grace period, during which you can cancel. An account used without signing in (a guest account) is deleted right away, with no grace period.

Request it in the app

Labels are shown as they appear when the app is set to English. In Korean, the same path reads 관리 → 계정 → 계정 삭제.

  1. Tap the gear icon (Settings) at the top right of the Home screen. The Manage screen opens.
  2. Tap the Account card at the top (Sign-in & account).
  3. Near the bottom of the account screen, tap Delete account.
  4. Read what will be deleted and how the 30-day grace period works, turn on “I understand that every photo and video will be deleted, and that it becomes permanent after 30 days.”, then tap Request account deletion.
  5. In the Delete this account? dialog, tap Request deletion to submit the request. For an account signed in with a social account, the account screen then shows the permanent deletion date.

The 30-day grace period described in the app applies to accounts signed in with a social account. If you use the app as a guest, read “If you use the app without signing in (as a guest)” below first.

If you have deleted the app or can't open it

Reinstall the app and sign in with the same social account you used before — you return to your existing account. Then follow the steps in “Request it in the app”.

If signing in again is not possible (for example, you can no longer use that social account), email the address below to request account deletion. We will reply with the next steps.

privacy@zzazan.ai

Our servers do not store the email address or name of your social account, so we cannot find an account from the address you write from alone. Deletion can go ahead once the account has been identified.

If you use the app without signing in (as a guest)

  • The server holds only an anonymous account and its identifier; photos and videos, face analysis results, and child information stay on your device and are never sent to a server.
  • If you request account deletion in the app, deletion starts right away, without the 30-day grace period, and cannot be cancelled. What is deleted is the anonymous account data on the server (the account deletion record remains); data stored on your device is not erased.
  • To erase the data on your device as well, delete the app. It is removed along with the app and cannot be restored from the server.
  • After you delete the app, the anonymous account data left on the server is cleaned up once there has been no use (opening the app or signing in) for 90 days since the last use.

After you request it — a 30-day grace period

This is what happens for an account signed in with a social account. Guest accounts have no grace period.

  1. Right away

The 30-day grace period starts. Family access is blocked immediately, and while it lasts you can only download photos, delete permanently, and cancel the deletion. Uploading, moving to trash, restoring, and sharing are paused.

  2. Within 30 days

You can cancel at any time. In the app, signed in with the same social account, tap Cancel account deletion under Manage → Account, and your photos and sharing come back as they were.

  3. After 30 days

Deletion starts and can't be undone. The data under “What is deleted” is deleted, and only the data under “What remains after deletion” is kept.

What is deleted and what is kept

Once deletion goes ahead — after the 30-day grace period for social accounts, right after the request for guests — data on our servers is handled as follows.

What is deleted

  • Photo and video files you uploaded — originals and converted images used for display, including those you added to other people's shared albums.
  • Shared albums you created
  • Child information — child profiles synced to the server (name, nickname, date of birth and the like), links between photos and children, and tags and place labels
  • Consent history, device registration data, and in-app notifications
  • Your social login links and sign-in account — if you signed in with Apple, we ask Apple to revoke the link (token) and delete the data used for it as soon as the revocation is confirmed (or 30 days later if revocation ultimately fails).

Files are deleted irrecoverably, with a check that no actual file remains in storage. Even after the files are deleted, a deletion marker remains for each photo (see the table below).

What remains after deletion

The following remains after account deletion completes. Items with a set period are deleted automatically once it passes.

DataRetentionNotes
Deletion markers (a management record for each photo and video)Kept with no set periodThe original and converted image files are deleted, and for each photo the capture time, file size, integrity hash (a value computed from the file's content, from which the file cannot be rebuilt), whether it is a photo or a video and its version records, processing times, and internal identifiers (including a hash made from the device's photo identifier) remain. The record is kept to confirm that no undeleted file remains in storage; once account deletion completes it is tied together only by internal numbers, with no sign-in link. For photos added to shared albums, the record of which album each was added to and when (the album number, the internal number of the account that added it, and the time — the album link record) also remains. Link records in albums you created are deleted along with those albums, but link records in other people's shared albums are currently not deleted by the deletion process and remain. There is currently no process that deletes these records automatically.
Account deletion recordsKept with no set periodThe account's internal number, account type and status, the times it was created and deleted, the deletion request number, the start and end of the grace period, and the storage in use when deletion was requested. This is the record of the deletion; once the social login link is deleted, it is tied together only by internal numbers.
Re-link block dataBlocking lasts 30 days after deletion completes; the record is kept with no set periodA cryptographic hash of the social account identifier you signed in with, the provider's name, the deletion request number, and the times deletion was completed and the block expires. For 30 days it prevents that social account from being linked to another account. It does not prevent creating a new account with the same social account; in that case we tell you that it is a new account in which the previous photos and data are not restored. Because it is tied to the account deletion record by the deletion request number, if you sign in again with the same social account we can tell that it is the social account of the deleted earlier account.
Guardian profile (display name, avatar color, nicknames used in other people's albums)Remains after account deletionOnce account deletion completes it no longer appears in member lists, but it is currently not deleted by the deletion process and remains on the server.
Service usage records90 daysTime and type of each request; the actor and target exist only as cryptographic hashes.
Database backupsUp to 7 daysDatabase backups made once a day for disaster recovery still contain deleted data for up to 7 days, and it disappears as the backups are replaced.
Error diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics)90 daysSent from the app directly to Google, never through our servers.
Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)Events 2 months · user-level identifiers 14 monthsSent from the app directly to Google. The retention period for user-level identifiers resets while the app is in use.

Data stored only on your device

  • Face recognition data (face feature values, face crops, detection coordinates) exists only on your device and is never sent to a server, so deleting your account does not remove it from the device.
  • Face recognition data on the device is deleted when you delete the app. Deleting a child profile does not delete it. It may, however, be included in device backups you have set up; keeping or deleting those backups is managed by you and your backup provider.

Delete data but keep your account

You can delete some of your data while keeping your account. Every path below starts from the Manage screen, opened with the gear icon (Settings) at the top right of the Home screen.

Photos and videos backed up to the cloud (accounts signed in with a social account)

Manage → My cloud → Select → choose photos and videos → Delete

  • They move to the Cloud Trash, where they are kept for 30 days and then permanently deleted. Until then you can bring them back by choosing them under Manage → Cloud Trash and tapping Restore selected.
  • To delete them without waiting 30 days, tap Empty trash → Empty in the Cloud Trash. Everything in the trash is permanently deleted right away, and this can't be undone.
  • Even after permanent deletion, a deletion marker (a management record such as capture time, file size, and integrity hash) remains for each photo. Tags and child links attached to that photo are deleted when you turn child information sync off or when account deletion completes.

Child information synced to the server (accounts signed in with a social account)

Manage → Privacy & consent → turn off Sync person info to server

  • Depending on the app version, this switch may be labeled Sync child info to server. It is the same switch.
  • Child information held on the server — child profiles, links between photos and children, tags and place labels, and the child tags in shared albums — is deleted on the spot, with no grace period. Only the automatic-tag reference lists attached to each backed-up photo are emptied in turn by a server cleanup job that runs every 15 minutes; even before that, they are not used for viewing, search, or sharing.
  • Data on your device and originals already backed up are retained. While sync is off, server search, naming capture regions, and sharing a child's profile with a family group do not work.

Usage statistics

Manage → Privacy & consent → turn off Share usage statistics

  • Sending usage statistics from the app to Google stops immediately.
  • Statistics already sent are deleted automatically once their retention period has passed (events 2 months, user-level identifiers 14 months).

Face recognition data stored only on your device

  • It is never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete there.
  • To delete all of it from the device, delete the app. Deleting a child profile does not delete the face recognition data stored on the device.

Anything else

  • For requests you can't complete in the app — such as stopping original backup processing — email privacy@zzazan.ai. We will reply with how it can be handled.
